Wildlife in the field

Our Story

Born from a belief that business can be a force for nature.

The story of Green Globe Initiative begins not in a boardroom, but in the field — in the forests and borderlands of Sri Lanka, where for three decades a small team dedicated their lives to one of the most complex challenges in conservation: teaching people and wildlife to coexist.

As the founding organisation behind the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society (SLWCS), established in 1995, the team pioneered approaches that earned global recognition. From developing the world's first EleFriendly Bus Service to launching Project Orange Elephant and earning a UN Equator Prize, the SLWCS became a model for what conservation looks like when communities are placed at its centre.

Thirty years of field work taught something no research paper could fully capture: passion alone cannot sustain conservation at scale. Real, lasting environmental impact demands sustained funding, institutional commitment, and strategic partnership.

The gap was undeniable. On one side, conservation organisations doing extraordinary work with scarce resources. On the other, forward-thinking corporations with the capital, the mandate, and the genuine will to act — but without the trusted expertise or ground-level relationships to do so with credibility.

Green Globe Initiative was founded to close that gap. We are not a charity. We are not a typical consultancy. We are a purpose-driven enterprise, built by conservationists, designed for business.

Our Direction

Vision

"A future where profit and purpose work together to empower communities, protect the planet, and build a more sustainable world for future generations."

Mission

"To drive meaningful and lasting change by developing sustainable solutions that protect the environment, preserve cultural heritage, conserve wildlife, and empower communities to thrive in harmony with nature."

Our Philosophy

The principles that guide us.

At GGI, it is our philosophy that businesses should be a force for positive change — using innovation, responsibility, and sustainable practices to create lasting benefits for people and the planet. True success is measured not only by economic growth, but by the ability to protect, empower, and sustain.

Conservation

We protect the environment, wildlife, and cultural heritage — not as an obligation, but as the foundation of everything we do. Every GGI partnership produces outcomes that are real, measurable, and lasting.

Community

We empower communities to thrive in harmony with nature, building livelihoods that protect rather than destroy the ecosystems around them. People and wildlife can coexist — and we prove it.

Partnership

We build strategic alliances with global organisations, governments, and corporations who share our belief that business can be a force for good. Great partnerships create outcomes neither party could achieve alone.

Impact

We deliver measurable, lasting environmental and social change — outcomes that are verified, reported, and built to endure. Impact is not a feeling. It is a number, a habitat, a community.

What We Are Responding To

A planet under pressure.

What concerns us is the unsustainable rate at which humanity is consuming the planet's natural resources, placing ecosystems, biodiversity, and future generations at risk. We are deeply concerned by the growing disconnect between human progress and environmental responsibility, where short-term consumption too often outweighs long-term sustainability.

We believe it is essential to restore balance — through sustainable living, responsible stewardship, and collective action to protect and preserve the Earth for generations to come.

This urgency is why GGI exists. And it is why the partnerships we build are not optional — they are essential.

What We Built

Turningeverydaycommerceintoconservation.

Thirty years in the field taught us that the hardest part is not the work — it is funding it reliably. The Impact Marketplace is our answer: a working marketplace where a fixed share of every single sale funds this work, automatically, on every order.

The people behind the mission.
